Proximity Analysis

Optional module · ArcGIS Pro Fundamentals

Overview

In this module we will learn about different ways to use proximity to learn about the landscape, which is one of the fundamental concepts in spatial analysis. Analyzing by proximity not only lets you know what things are nearby, but helps to identify routes that might be traveled, areas that should be conserved, and whether something appears to be attracted by certain features or repelled by them. We will learn some vector and raster-based methods for proximity analysis, using both straight-line "as-the-crow-flies" distances and distances weighted by the difficulty of crossing an area.

Please step through the PowerPoint lecture Proximity Analysis Lecture while reviewing the slide notes in the document Proximity Analysis: Lecture Notes and Lab Exercises, and then work through the lab exercises.

All the lab exercises are presented in the document Proximity Analysis: Lecture Notes and Lab Exercises. Remember, the lab exercises are where you really learn the material, so take advantage of them! I'm here and excited to answer any questions you have, or help out if you get stuck on anything.
