About the Author
Jeff Jenness is a self-employed GIS analyst and programmer who has worked with Esri software for over 30 years, specializing in wildlife and ecosystem applications. Through Jenness Enterprises he writes GIS tools and performs spatial analyses for a wide variety of clients around the world — his ArcView, ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro extensions are used by researchers and practitioners in countries around the world. Every once in a while he even gets out in the field.
He is a graduate of the Northern Arizona University School of Forestry (B.S. 1989, M.S. 2000) and a former U.S. Forest Service wildlife technician and biologist (1988–2006). As a Visiting Professor at NAU Forestry he has taught GIS to the undergraduate, graduate and professional programs since 2012 — teaching that is now becoming the online GIS training offered here. He also works as a GIS analyst and developer for the Springs Stewardship Institute in Flagstaff, primarily on ecological analysis of springs ecosystems, with occasional archaeological analyses for the Museum of Northern Arizona. One high point so far: living in Rome for three months, doing GIS work for the United Nations.
