Lecture 1: Environmental Envelopes and Minimum Convex Polygons

Here we discuss how and why to calculate Environmental Envelopes and Minimum Convex Polygons in ArcGIS Pro. We also look at Mahalanobis Distances, which expands on Environmental Envelopes, and we look at LoCoH (Local Convex Hulls), which overcomes many of the shortcomings of Minimum Convex Hulls.

Lecture 2: Kernel Densities

Here we discuss how and why to calculate Kernel Densities (aka Heat Maps) in ArcGIS Pro. We take a close look at how ArcGIS calculates default bandwidths, and review an alternative method for calculating proportions of volume under the curve, which would make it easier to compare kernel density activity areas between animals.
